Kat Cadegan Jewellery

Kat Cadegan was born and raised on Cape Breton Island. She grew up in a musical east coast family. In University, she traded her musical instruments for a shovel. What started out as a summer job treeplanting turned into 17 seasons in the bush and more than 2 million trees planted. Her treeplanting lifestyle would become one of seasonal work, school and travel. Travel that eventually landed her in India where she took her first of what would be many silversmithing classes. Surrounded by the gems and rich traditions of India, a love was born. Far from the classrooms and University Degrees she had worked tirelessly towards, she realized her true path.

Following her trip to Asia, Kat headed to the mountains of northern Mexico and studied under a master silversmith for two years. Upon her return to Canada, she obtained a diplmona from the Kootenay School of the Arts majoring in Jewellery.

In the fall of 2011, Kat had the pleasure of returning to Cape Breton as the Artist in Residence at the Cape Breton Center for Craft and Design.

Kats endless search for inspiration has lead her around the world. From teaching silversmithing in Shanghai, to gem hunting in Nepal and beyond.

An avid backcountry skier, Kat now lives in Revelstoke with her husband and their Mexican street dog, Señor.

My work is a collection of pieces inspired by nature and travel. Rarely can I go on a walk without picking something up and wondering how it will translate into jewellery. My window sills and shelves are lined tiny treasures just waiting to find their way into my work.
