Claudia Schulz Hats
My work explores the relationship between design and fashion, craft and art. I’m interested in minimal design principles and modernist architecture by using traditional millinery techniques to achieve the outcome of perfect execution and imperfect form. Each hat is an object that can be worn or placed as a sculpture.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Claudia Schulz grew up in Berlin, Germany and now lives since 2001 between Vancouver, Canada and Berlin. Each of Claudia’s pieces are uniquely designed upon minimal design principles showing simple lines, striking colours, and refined accent details creating wearable modern hats. Having studied social work by trade, Claudia shortly realized after taking several millinery courses by a local milliner, that the process of hat making was her medium of art and she hasn’t looked back since.
